Authorities say Sakiyna Thompson, a New York woman, has been held by police in connection with the death of Kayla Hodgson, 23, in Tamarac last month.
Kayla Hodgson died on July 13 at her home near the 9300 block of Northwest 57th Street. There hasn’t been an arrest in this case yet, according to Broward County deputies.
In Tamarac, where Hodgson’s body was found inside her apartment on Wednesday, homicide detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office were observed gathering information at the Tamarac Village Apartment complex for a second night in a row.

Police have apprehended a New York woman in connection with the death of Kayla Hodgson, 23, in Tamarac last month, according to the authorities. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Sakiyna Thompson, 28, was detained by the New York Police Department on Wednesday in Springfield Gardens, Queens.
Officials from Broward obtained a warrant for Thompson’s arrest on July 25. Deputies believe that Thompson will be sent back to Broward County after her extradition, where she will face first-degree murder charges.

On Thursday, Thompson’s mugshot was not immediately available. The Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island is where she is being held, according to the Department of Corrections for the City of New York. Records show that Thompson is a native of Jamaica, despite the fact that it is unknown where she resided at the time of the murder.
Hodgson, Kayla Timeline of a Suspicious Murder
Deputies from Broward County later located a young woman, who was only 23 years old, dead. She was identified by friends as flight attendant and event bartender Kayla Hodgson.
A 911 call was made about a woman who had been found unconscious inside a second-floor apartment around 3 p.m., according to detectives. Our caller claims that the patient has a gash on his neck, the operator said. Her neck appeared to have been sliced.
Hodgson was already deceased when deputies arrived on the scene. Residents of the complex found a comprehensive investigation in progress when they got home. Some individuals voiced worry about their safety.
The circumstances of her death are still being investigated by homicide detectives. Around 10 p.m., seven hours after the body was found, detectives began clearing the crime scene.

In a GoFundMe campaign to help the family with Hodgson’s burial expenses, the family praised Hodgson as an incredible daughter, beloved and adored big sister, niece, grandchild, and cousin, whose bond was unlike any other.
According to the description of the fundraiser, everyone who had the good fortune to meet Kayla was compelled to fall in love with her vibrant personality and large heart.
